F-105
Thunderchief Book - Request for Information
For more than ten years, Mr. Theo Van Geffen
of Utrecht, The Netherlands has been researching
F-105 history in preparation for a new F-105
book, the proceeds of which will go to the Red
River Rats Scholarship Program. (He is also a
member of the Air Force Association, Iron Gate
Chapter.)
This is our opportunity to help get a book into
publication that tells the true story of the
F-105 and all of the groups who contributed to
making it such a great success.
Mr. Van Geffen, has conducted the most extensive
research on the F-105 to date, spending summer
vacations in the U.S. to visit museums and
interview engineer, pilots and EWOs who flew
combat in the F-105, and ground crew members.
This book will include significant information
and details not found in previous F-105 books.
Theo flew in the back seat of the next to the
last F-105F delivered from Hill AFB, Utah for
static display. The back seat of the last F-105F
delivered from Hill AFB was unoccupied. Mr. Van
Geffen has put his heart and soul making his book
a credit to all involved with the incredible
F-105 Thunderchief, its many missions and the
units it flew with.
NOTE: Frank Hayes and Glen Mackey have already
contributed extensively to Mr. Van Geffens
research. LIEFC V.P. Sal Vitale has provided a
complete set of F-105 manuals.
The aircraft development project ever contributed
so much advancing aerospace technology as that of
the F-105. Meanwhile, journalists and historians,
including those on Long Island, have passed over
the great story of Republic Aviation and the
F-105. This book is our opportunity to get on
record some of the outstanding accomplishments of
Republic engineering and manufacturing, the high
production rate of thirty per month in 1961 and
what the F-105 development contributed to
tactical air power. Please forward stories and
copies of documents to: Mr. Theo Van Geffen, 598
Romerostraat, 3573 AW Utricht, The Netherlands, THUDUTCH@WANADOO.NL. (Request submitted by
Frank Hayes, LIEFC)
