Charles
Lindbergh's Second Bounce
The top picture is a painting by Charles Knotek.
It depicts the moment just as it became airborne
on its take-of from Roosevelt Field. The lower
photo is a monument dedicated to Charles
Lindbergh's epic flight from New York to Paris.
It was erected next to Fortunoff s department
store in Westbury Long Island, New York. This is
the approximate place the "Spirit of St.
Louis" took a "second bounce" on
its takeoff into history. Instrumental in this
project was Andrea Fortunoff - Registered
Architect and daughter of Alan Fortunoff. Her
collaboration with sculptor "Chris
Pelletieri helped create a graceful, lasting
impression of Long Island history. Our hats are
off to the above people for their contributions
in helping preserve Long Island's past and the
historic flight that opened new pathways in air
transportation.
